Set individual goals and team goals with players
          1.    Cover academics: grades in each class, team GPA.
          2.    Performance goals: on the court, off the court.
          3.    Review and revise after Christmas


Team Rules
          1.    Team captains decide? Entire team?
          2.    Cover drugs, dress policy, punishments, other conduct.
          3.    Respect officials: No outward disapproval
          4.    Become a better person
          5.    Respect yourself, respect others
          6.    Work hard to earn success.
          7.    Have fun - Enjoy life, enjoy basketball


Develop team motto


Formula for success
          1.    Increase rebounds
          2.    Decrease turnovers


Areas to focus on
          1.    Simple offense: gets open shots for scorers
          2.    Intensity defense: man and hybrid or zone.
          3.    Specialty defense:  court trap or full court
          4.    Pressure breaking offense
          5.    Special situations: OB plays, jump, freethrow
          6.    Individual skills: defense, offense, shooting.


Tryouts
          1.    Get information on 3x5 cards
          2.    Email cuts
          3.    Evenly balance teams
Before first game
        1.       Pregame routine established
        2.       Game routines: timeouts, half-time, after game, etc.


Special practice sessions
        1.       Educational clinics: female triad, alcohol, drugs, smoking etc.
        2.       Pray before practices & games
        3.       Bring devotional speakers: Before light practices or shoot arounds. Invite students from
                 chaplains office. Give topic and 10 min


Coaching goals
        1.       Instill pride and confidence in players.
        2.       Respect officials: both players and coaches
        3.       Develop unity
        4.       4th in conference
        5.       Increase GPA
        6.       Have fun
        7.       Increase spirituality
        8.       Increase conditioning
        9.       Keep athletes out of trouble. Model students.
        10.      1 Playoff win

        1.       Depth in each position
        2.       Talent
        3.       Defensive strength
        4.       Shooters


Team weakness
        1.       Decrease defense speed by guards
        2.       Inexperience
        3.       Less knowledge
        4.       Undefined roles

                  ESTABLISHING TEAM GOALS
   Majority of goals should require concentration on the process of performing sport
    activity rather than striving for some score or effect (winning).
   These goals should be restricted to performance the athlete has control over.
    There is no control over game situations since they are effected by the quality of
    the opponent.
Types of Goals:
       Performance - Example: Shoot 75% free throws, Turnover to assist ratio
                       of 1:2
       Activity Goals - Example: Learn to shoot a reverse lay-in, make a 3-pt
                      shot consistently.
